TBS has announced that Last Comic Standing alum Theo Von will be hosting its upcoming hidden-camera series Deal With It, which is being executive produced by America's Got Talent judge Howie Mandel.
The show will feature unsuspecting members of the public who are dared to pull a prank or trick on their friends, with minimal preparation. Prizes and cash will be awarded to those that do the best at embarrassing their companions. Sounds lovely, does it not?
Von currently hosts Yahoo!'s daily recap series, Primetime in No Time. He also tours the country performing stand-up comedy and even competed for a season on MTV's Road Rules. CrankTexts.com, a website that hooks people up with random conversations with strangers (why would someone want that?) is also his brainchild.
Six episodes are being ordered for the series, which Mandel's Alevy Productions, Roy Bank's Banca Studio and Keshet, in association with Lionsgate Television, are developing.
It seems like hidden camera series will never go out of business. I cannot back this up, but I believe this is the 94,156 hidden camera series that a network has ordered. I guess they are cheap to produce and bring back good return on investment, but really, the entire genre seems tired to me.
The series premieres Tuesday, July 16 at 10 p.m. on TBS. Will you check it out?
