Let’s face it. We love to hate these - for lack of a better word - bitches every time they open their mouths, steal someone’s boyfriend or create the ultimate scheme to stab everyone and anyone in the back. In honor of some of the most hated characters from past and present series, here are just a few of TV’s ultimate mean girls.
1. Alison DiLaurentis
This is one name I hate to hear every time I tune into ABC Family’s smash hit “Pretty Little Liars.” Aria (Lucy Hale), Spencer (Troian Bellisario), Hanna (Ashley Benson) and Emily (Shay Mitchell) can thank Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse) for wreaking havoc on their lives. They followed in Ali’s manipulative footsteps, and started keeping some pretty deep, dark secrets. Now, after Ali’s “death”, the A-Team is punishing the fab four for their lies and Ali’s dreadful nature. Ali was a terrible friend, and now that she might be alive, the PLL’s might want to leave town. Wherever Ali goes, bad seems to follow.
2. Rachel Gatina
When Rachel Gatina (Danneel Ackles) first made an appearance on “One Tree Hill,” fans knew she was going to be nothing but trouble. Despite being Brooke Davis’ (Sophia Bush) best friend and crushed on by Mouth (Lee Norris), she sure had a mean streak. From marrying Dan Scott (Paul Johansson) to repeatedly hitting on Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) to sleeping with Nathan’s (James Lafferty) uncle to cheating in school and spreading lies, Rachel was never shy to let her inner mean girl shine to make herself look “good.”
3. Rebekah Mikaelson
I hate to label Rebekah Mikaelson (Claire Holt) as a “mean girl,” because I love her so much, but she is brilliant at playing the bitch in Mystic Falls on “The Vampire Diaries.” She wasn’t always the quintessential mean girl, but after hundreds of years as a vampire it pretty much comes naturally. Some of her best spitfire moments occur around Elena (Nina Dobrev) who just seems too perfect and goody-goody for Rebekah. She’s never afraid to show her true mean girl colors; after all, she is to blame for Elena’s death and transformation into a vampire. Not only is she an Original vamp, but she’s an Original bitch.
4. Katie Ryan/Meredith Sorenson/Katrina Bennett
Who would have thought Jody Sawyer from “Center Stage” would play some of the most hated parts on television? I couldn’t just pick one of Amanda Schull’s mean girl roles, so I had to include all of them. In addition to being mean, Schull’s parts also embrace a little craziness. From playing “One Tree Hill’s” psycho Katie who shot Clay (Robert Buckley) and Quinn (Shantel VanSanten) to having an affair with Aria’s father on “Pretty Little Liars” to playing the new “out for herself” lawyer in town on “Suits,” Schull plays one hated woman on TV.
5. Rebecca Sewell Rybak
As Rebecca Sewell Rybak on “The Lying Game,” Charisma Carpenter truly embraces the typical backstabbing mean girl. Where do I begin? First, she gave up her twin daughters at birth, and now that she’s found them she wants to be a part of their lives. But, first she wants to steal their biological father from his current wife and create a “happy family.” When things don’t go her way, she reaches deep down and pulls out one scathing plan after another.
6. Blair Waldorf
It’s funny that “Gossip Girl’s” fans adore Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester). She was one horrible person. In real life, most people would despise Blair and want nothing to do with her. Maybe it’s because Meester is so good at playing the popular girl who everyone hates? Whatever the reasoning, Blair did anything it took to keep her high society status, fashion wardrobe, romance with Chuck (Ed Westwick) and perfect lifestyle. At times, it was great to see Blair suffer and get what she deserved.
7. Amanda Woodward
Who doesn’t think of Amanda Woodward when they hear “mean girl”? Heather Locklear played the notorious Amanda Woodward on the original “Melrose Place,”and did a damn fine job. Whether she was in the boardroom or the bedroom, Amanda wasn’t shy to become a hellion. She loved to play mind games with good girl Allison Parker (Courtney Thorne-Smith) and was never afraid to put Allison down for her stint in rehab. Talk about harsh.
8. Santana Lopez
Gleeks may love Santana Lopez (Naya Rivera) and root for her romance with Brittany (Heather Morris) on FOX’s hit “Glee,” but one thing remains clear - she can be a cold-hearted mean girl. Whether she’s dissing Rachel’s (Lea Michele) wardrobe or sleeping with every guy and girl in sight, her words speak louder than her actions. She has some vicious vocabulary and isn’t afraid to tell others how it is.
9. Wilhelmina Slater
It’s hard to disagree with the brilliance that is Wilhelmina Slater (Vanessa Williams) on “Ugly Betty.” As the creative director of fashion magazine Mode, she did anything and everything to become the editor-in-chief, and looked fabulous doing it (she had an amazing wardrobe). When she wasn’t putting down Betty (America Ferrera) for her awful sense of style or slaying Daniel Meade (Eric Mabius) with her vicious rhetoric, Wilhelmina created all kinds of schemes - like helping Daniel’s brother, Alex, transform into Alexis (Rebecca Romijn). Her mean girl status was off the charts.
10. Regina Mills
Regina Mills (Lana Parrilla) aka the Evil Queen from “Once Upon a Time” literally has a black heart. Despite her love for her mother, I blame Cora (Barbara Hershey) for pushing Regina to the dark side. Regina is now capable of truly evil qualities. She poisoned Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin) with a shiny red apple; she brought a curse over some of our favorite fairytale characters wiping their memories and true identities; and she even ripped out her own father’s heart to complete the curse. Yikes! Regina’s mean girl antics go on for miles, and I wouldn’t want to be on her bad side.
Who is your favorite mean girl?
