Yesterday it was announced that Breaking Bad would be returning for its final eight episodes on August 11. This great news was undercut by the fact that it's a later date than we had anticipated -- highlighting the absolutely massive midseason gap that effectively turned a sixteen-episode season into two eight-episode seasons.
It appears that this midseason divide will be reflected by the home video releases -- the first eight episodes of the season will receive their own DVD and Blu-ray release in June.
June 4 will see the release of a three-disc DVD (two discs for the Blu-ray) set of the eight episodes. The set, interestingly (and somewhat confoundingly) isn't being marketed as "The Fifth Season, Part 1," but instead simply "The Fifth Season." This is in contrast to other sets being titled "The Complete Xth Season," naturally. This begs the question: what will they call the DVD release of Breaking Bad season 5's second half?
It's all a little confusing, but regardless, it's nice to be getting another Breaking Bad DVD release, I suppose. What do you think?
Breaking Bad season 5 will resume on August 11, and will run for eight episodes, culminating in the long-anticipated series finale.
