“Saint George” is headed to FX.
The George Lopez ensemble comedy will revolve around the chaotic life of a recently divorced Mexican- American man- turned successful entrepreneur. Lopez’s character juggles his demanding ex- wife, an 11- year- old son, an overbearing mother (who just moved in), and his uncle, not to mention a new philanthropic role of “giving back” by teaching history once a week in night school.
Much like with Charlie Sheen vehicle “Anger Management,” FX made another 10/90 deal with Lionsgate TV and its TV distribution company Debmar- Mercury. Under the deal, FX ordered 10 episodes of the project. If “Saint George” meets its ratings thresholds, the network will then order an additional 90 episodes just like it did for “Anger Management.”
Lopez originally made a pact with Lionsgate TV and Debmar- Mercury to co- create, star in and exec produce a Latino family sitcom early last year. Then in February he teamed with Matt Williams (co- creator of “Roseanne”) after Lionsgate forged a first- look deal with Williams and his Wind Dancer Films for the Lopez show.
Williams created the project and co- writes with Wind Dancer partner Daid McFadzean and Lopez.
