Last week, Showtime finally dropped the bomb that fans of Dexter had been dreading (or in some cases, hoping would come): that the show would be ending after its eighth season this summer.
There is a glimmer of hopes for fans who do not want to have the Morgan family leave their lives forever, though. Showtime is considering creating a spin-off of the series, with the front runner at this time rumored to be a show that would focus on Deb (Jennifer Carpenter), the sister of serial killer Dexter and a lieutenant with the Miami Police Department.
"All options are on the table as to where it could go after this," Showtime president David Nevins said. "There's nothing actively happening, but you never know what the future holds. We need to get through this season and see how the dust settles and then see where we go from there. I won't rule it out, but I'm not actively planning anything."
Ugh. The character of Deb has been written all over the place and Carpenter's acting is a real low point on the show, in my opinion. I think there are ways to do a spin-off that would work better than this.
What do you think? What would you do if you were Showtime?
