'M*A*S*H' actor Allan Arbus passes away

M*A*S*H's psychiatrist has passed away.

Allan Arbus, who played Maj. Sidney Freedman on the iconic CBS series, died at 95 years old Friday in Los Angeles, according to his daughter Amy.

Arbus appeared as Freedman in 12 episodes of the series. His character provided counsel to the men and women of the 4077th's medical staff during their stay in South Korea. He first appeared in the show's second season, where he evaluated the cross-dressing Maxwell Klinger (Jamie Farr). His final appearance was in the series' finale, where he helped Hawkeye (Alan Alda) realize what had caused him to go nuts.

“I was so convinced that he was a psychiatrist, I used to sit and talk with him between scenes,” Alda said in a 2000 interview. “After a couple months of that, I noticed he was giving me these strange looks, like, ‘How would I know the answer to that?’”

M*A*S*H was not the only TV appearance Arbus made - not even close. He also apepared on the Mod Squad, Here Come the Brides, L.A. Law, The Odd CoupleKarenWonder Woman, NYPD Blue, The Rockford Files,Quincy M.E.Cagney & Lacey, and Judging Amy.

His last role was Uncle Nathan on Curb Your Enthusiasm in 2000.

Rest in peace, sir.

I looked forward with anticipation to his appearances on M*A*S*H, even when re-watching the show on DVD.  He was only in *12* episodes?  Sure seems like it was more than that.  Oh well.  RIP, Allan.  We'll miss you.
