A former “Ben & Kate” star has gotten a new gig.
Nat Faxon was in high demand this pilot season. Now he’ll play the lead on FX’s untitled comedy pilot by filmmaker Andrew Gurland.
The FX Prods-produced project focuses on a married man (played by Faxon) and his wife, best friends who are determined to salvage their marriage.
Faxon won an Oscar last year for co-writing “The Descendants.” He also reportedly was hesitant to commit full-time to a broadcast series because of feature projects (he’s also looking to direct). He also filmed a guest starring/potential recurring gig on ABC comedy pilot “Spy.”
The pilot is exec produced by Gurland, Paul Young and Peter Principato. Salamo Levin developed the project alongside Gurland, and will be a producer. Gurland wrote the script and will also serve as director.
Faxon co-directed, co-wrote and exec produced “The Way, Way Back,” an indy which trigger a bidding frenzy at the Sundance Film Festival. It eventually scored a $10 million deal with Fox Searchlight.
“Ben & Kate,” which also starred Dakota Johnson, was a critical favorite but didn’t draw enough of an audience on Fox Tuesday nights.
Faxon is represented by Innovative and Principato-Young.
