A veteran in the animation field is set to pen a new series for British audiences.
Long-time writer and producer of "The Simpsons" Josh Weinstein will serve as writer for new CBBC series "Strange Hill High." The series centers on three Year 7 friends and their adventures at a less than typical inner city school filled with outlandish mysteries and fantastic secrets.
The 13 episode new series not only boasts the writing talents of Weinstein, but an impressive voice actor cast as well. Richard Ayoade ("The IT Crowd") will voice class nerd Templeton, joined by Emma Kennedy ("This is Jinsy") as Becky Butters and Doc Brown ("Big Babies") as street smart Mitchell Tanner. It will also utilize a unique new style of animation dubbed hypervynorama, a mixture of stop-motion puppetry and CGI.
Weinstein hyped the new animation style as key to his excitement for the new series, stating, "I've worked in animation my whole life and I've never seen a show as groundbreaking as 'Strange Hill High'. And when the ground breaks at Strange Hill, you never know what will come out."
This is excellent news for UK audiences -- Weinstein was one of the creators behind the underappreciated "Mission Hill" series, which aired for one season on The WB. "Strange Hill High" is set to premiere in May on CBBC.
