Saturday Night Live has announced the hosts and musical guests for the last two shows of the season, including a popular former cast member and another returning host.
On May 11, Kristen Wiig will return to Studio 8H as a host for the first time since her departure at the end of last season. The musical guest will be indie rock band Vampire Weekend, marking their second appearance on SNL.
A cast member on SNL for seven years, Wiig has several feature film projects coming out this year, including Girl Most Likely, Despicable Me 2, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, and the long-awaited Anchorman: The Legend Continues. In 2011, she earned an Academy Award nomination for co-writing the hit comedy Bridesmaids.
The following week on May 18, SNL will cap off its 38th season with Ben Affleck returning to host for the fifth time. Hip-hop superstar Kanye West also makes his fifth appearance as musical guest.
The critically acclaimed actor-director received a Best Picture nomination for the drama Argo at this year's Academy Awards. Currently, Affleck can be seen on-screen in Terrence Malick's To The Wonder and stars in the crime thriller Runner, Runner to be released in September.
NBC previously announced that Zach Galifianakis will host for the third time on May 4 to promote his new movie, The Hangover Part III. Making their SNL debut, indie folk/pop group Of Monsters and Men serve as musical guests.
As any SNL fan knows, Wiig has a closetful of memorable recurring characters: Target Lady, attention seeker and one-upper Penelope, the unsexy sexy office worker Shana, and of course the mischievous Gilly, just to name a few. Personally I'd like to see her bring back the character who freaks out at surprise parties. That one always cracked me up.
Which of Kristen Wiig's recurring characters would you like to see again?
