Sarah Silverman gets her first ever HBO comedy special
Despite beginning her appearances on 'Saturday Night Live' way back in 1993, Sarah Silverman is only now, in 2013, getting her first ever HBO Comedy Special. Slated to be taped in Los Angeles in May, the special entitled 'Sarah Silverman: We Are Miracles' will air on HBO in the autumn. The special will be presented by HBO in association with Funny or Die.
Many articles about the special are decrying HBO for taking so long to book Silverman for such a special, however as her fans are well aware, Silverman's is an esoteric form of comedy. Her shock humor frequently deals in topics like defecation, infanticide and the Holocaust; while nothing would be off-limits for an HBO special, it's possible that the network did not believe in the comedian's market appeal. However, following a starring turn in the hit animated feature 'Wreck-It Ralph,' Silverman is now more popular at age forty-three than she ever was in her twenties and thirties.
HBO also assisted with Silverman's break into acting, as she transitioned from a comedy writer to a performer; Silverman appeared in three episodes of 'The Larry Sanders Show' over the last two seasons of the hit HBO series.
Silverman previously starred in her own show 'The Sarah Silverman Program' and had one previous comedy special entitled 'Sarah Silverman: Jesus is Magic.' Check out some early Silverman stand-up from several years ago in the player below:
