Have you heard of NUVOtv? There's a good chance you might have, as the network is currently available to more than 30 million cable subscribers across the USA. NUVOtv is the latest metamorphosis of a channel that began life under the name SiTV back in 2004. Its mission statement was to be the first major network targeting the American Latino community, while airing exclusively English-language programming.
The channel re-branded as NUVOTV in 2011, and announced a new focus on catering to the young bi-cultural Latino community. To that end, NUVO announced a partnership with singer/actress/former reality show judge/ageless beauty Jennifer Lopez in the fall of 2012. Lopez assumed a minority stake in the company, and began a primarily creative role, working to develop new original programming aimed at the network's target demographic of Latinos aged 18-49.
What new exciting programs does NUVO have in store? We'll all find out pretty soon, as the network has announced that J.Lo herself will lead the annual upfront presentation this year. The presentation will serve to reveal the 2013-2014 programming slate for NUVO, as well as unveil the network's new branding campaign. The festivities will take place on Wednesday, May 15th at the Edison Ballroom in Lopez's native New York City.
With more and more generations of Latinos speaking English as their dominant language, it really is a wonder that there hasn't been a larger influx of networks like NUVOtv. The market for a Latino centered, English-language entertainment network will surely only continue to increase.
