Last night, Matt Lauer appeared on NBC's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno where the two men discussed the little dings that have been coming Lauer's way in the press recently. If rumors are correct, the two men have something in common besides being NBC personalities - they are both on the way to being ex-NBC personalities. Leno has about a year left as Tonight Show host, while rumors swirl that NBC is looking to replace Lauer, with Anderson Cooper being named as a possible replacement.
For his part, Lauer tried to put on a brave face and answer the questions.
“It’s been an interesting year, no question about it,” Lauer said. “But the fact of the matter is every day millions of people still invite us into their homes to deliver the news. I am not a guy who complains. I love this job. I really do.”
Kathie Lee Gifford, Lauer's Today colleague, recently tried to get the crew to rally behind Lauer, an effort that meant a lot to Lauer.
“My mother always told me in times of adversity you find out who your friends are – Kathy Lee’s a great friend,” he said.
Lauer also thanked Leno for being such a great friend. Aww.
