In news sure to make Dennis Stamp's day, ABC has announced a new competition series called You're Booked.
The show will be an America's Got Talent-type competition series and is based on a format that was created by Gogglebox Entertainment, a United Kingdom production company. The show will feature four judges/bookers evaluating performers, with the opportunity to appear in some of the country’s biggest and best venues on the line should they knock it out of the park. Sony Pictures Television will be developing the program.
"We're hoping that we can craft a next-generation and different iteration of a talent experience with the real world immediacy of booking," Sony Pictures Television executive vice president of reality and syndicating programming Holly Jacobs. "The most real world experience in the entertainment field is to be able to be booked in venues and that's what we wanted to reflect."
Each episode is designed to be self-contained, with at least one winner receiving a booking engagement. The plan also calls for follow-ups, where the winners' performances would be featured on the program.
"We're striving to develop something that feels like we haven't exactly seen this before," Jacobs says. "We're taking the best of what we love about Shark Tank and taking a variety show and bringing this real-world element to it."
This sounds no worse than any other competition program.
