Billy Crystal to star in Fox comedy series from Matt Nix and Larry Charles

Billy CrystalFrequent Oscars host and silver screen star Billy Crystal is making his return to television, and he will be not only starring in this new Fox TV Studios series, but he will also be co-writing and executive producing. Crystal has been attached to the untitled Fox TV Studios comedy from the hands of Burn Notice creator Matt Nix and Curb Your Enthusiasm’s Larry Charles. Crystal will be co-writing and executive producing the project with the help of Nix and Charles. Also on board will be comedy writer-producer Ben Wexler, who has a previous working history with Nix through their work on the Fox dramedy The Good Guys.

Details about the comedy project are sparse and guarded at this point, but word is that it is based on a European format and will be marketed as an “edgy comedy”. The role will mark Crystal’s return to television, which besides some guest roles on Soap and Saturday Night Live in the 80’s, has not had a regular role on television since his short lived variety show, The Billy Crystal Comedy Hour, in 1982. Crystal can next be seen (or heard, that is) on the big screen where he is reprising his role as one-eyed monster Mike Wazowski in Pixar’s Monsters Inc. sequel.
