The last season of AMC's Mad Men had its share of plot twists during the October, 2010 finale. When the finale began, Don Draper (Jon Hamm) seemed to be getting pretty serious with his colleague, psychologist Dr. Faye Miller (Cara Buono). Miller seemed to be a good fit for Don, since knew about his checkered past, and continued to support him even after knowing his secret. While dating Faye, Draper had a brief fling with his receptionist, Megan Calvet (Jessica Pare). Megan seemed to provide some qualities that Faye was lacking, such as being able to effortlessly interact with his children. Faye admitted that she did not have much experience with kids, so when Draper needed to visit Califiornia to sign some real estate papers, he took Megan along to help look after his children. While in California, Draper asked Megan to marry him, and later called Faye to break off their existing romantic relationship, after Megan accepted the proposal.
Despite breaking Faye's heart, Don seemed extremely happy with his decision, commenting that he felt like he could "be himself" around Megan. Viewers saw that comment as a red flag, since Draper had actually been hiding his true identity from Megan. Faye commented on his relationship, "I hope she knows you only like the beginning of things."
Could Faye's comment be a from of foreshadowing? Fans of Mad Men seem to doubt that Draper will be able to see it through with Megan, and are not expecting a wedding, based on his womanizing past, and the fact that he is keeping a huge secret from her. If they do get married, will he ever reveal his true self to her? It can be argued that a happy marriage would not be possible if he does not reveal his secret, but then again, he has an awful lot at stake, and telling anybody his secret puts him at risk. The new season could even begin with the couple already broken up, or already married. Any way that it goes, we are certainly curious to find out how his relationship with Megan will turn out in the upcoming season.
