He steps with ease into the shoes of an actor, but it’s a writer’s mind in play. Maybe that’s why he’s been able to move seamlessly between worlds. The list of what Mr. Dan Bucatinsky is capable of includes: actor, director, producer, screenwriter, and now author of the new book Does this Baby Make me Look Straight. As one half of a same-sex couple and adoptive parent he embodies the ideal of “Do as I do, not as I say.”
He’s been involved in such projects as Grey’s Anatomy and Web Therapy. He’s guest starred in an array of television hits such as Weeds and Cybill. And in his newest incarnation, he plays James Novak on Scandal. As partner to the White House Chief of Staff, he walks a somewhat parallel line to what we know as his actual reality. While we might differ on our opinions of his character, we certainly don’t dislike the man behind the role.
He seasons his dramatic prospects with a pinch of comedy. I got the opportunity, during a recent interview on Huff Post Live, to pose a question about this very topic. His response highlighted his interest in a flexible balance between the two sides of the coin, comedy and drama. Likewise this dance of scales can be found in the many professions he partakes in. The interview in its entirety can be found here.
You can purchase his book, Does This Baby Make Me Look Straight on Amazon here. And you can see him every Thursday on ABC at 10est/9cen in Scandal.
