After a lackluster season on Fox's "American Idol," rumors are swirling about rejuvenating ratings for season 13.
Radar Online reports that series producer Nigel Lythgoe is prepping a complete overhaul of the judges' table for next season, with a dream team of Pink, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, and Sean 'Diddy' Combs as early frontrunners.
"It's been a lacklustre season for Idol and everyone involved with the show is well aware of it so that's why producers are frantically working on lining up big name stars for season 13," a source told Radar Online. "There's more drama going on behind the scenes of the show than on the stage, and that's why there's a major overhaul in the works."
The current season has been slipping in viewership, with the addition of Mariah Carey and her rivalry with fellow judge Nicki Minaj generating few sparks. "Producers have been trying to recreate that buzz [leaked by TMZ during the audition phase] ever since and it hasn't worked - the public isn't buying it. The judges don't have real chemistry, and there's no real standout contestant," the source continued. "That's why they want to go big next season, and you can't get any bigger than Justin Bieber. The executives are calling it their dream team because who wouldn't tune in to see Justin and Selena, Pink and Diddy?"
The latest rumors come on the heels of reports that Fox executives had been maneuvering to oust Carey and replace her with former judge Jennifer Lopez for the remainder of the season.
