Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has found his latest co-star.
HBO has given a pilot order to a half-hour dramedy pilot starring Johnson, his first TV starring role. Omar Miller (“CSI: Miami”) will co-star in the untitled pilot as Charles, a genial ex-pro athlete looking for his next career.
Johnson will also exec produce the project with “Pain & Gain” co-star Mark Wahlberg and also Steve Levinson.
Peter Berg will direct the pilot and exec produce, along with Johnson’s manager (and ex-wife) Dany Garcia, who runs his production company.
The untitled project is written by Levinson and chronicles the lives of athletes both retired and active living in Miami. Johnson will play one of these athletes in the untitled project, which is expected to film in the fall.
Seeds for the project were planted when Johnson and Wahlberg worked together on Michael Bay’s “Pain & Gain.” Both actors are also represented by the same agency, WME. Berg is also represented by WME, and this is his second HBO pilot gig. He will also direct and exec produce Damon Lindelof’s “The Leftovers.”
Miller will also soon appear in action feature “Homefront.” Miller is represented by Don Buchwalkd & Associates and MBST.
