Out with the old and in with the new. According to a report from TheWrap.com, all four American Idol judges – Randy Jackson, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, and Keith Urban – may be out of a job come next season. In addition to this, the site also makes the claim that Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe will not return either.
It is no secret that Idol has been slipping in the ratings. The network is desperately trying to win back their target audience and bring a youthful appeal to the show. Each Idol judge has their own options for what they would like to do next season, but the network allegedly does not want to bring any of them back because “They feel they've lost their core audience, and they want it back," a source told TheWrap.
More than a few judges have come and gone over Idol’s 12 season reign, and Randy Jackson is the only original judge from season one to remain on the show. Bringing in new judges could not only change the face of Idol and appeal to new audiences, but it will likely also save the show more than a few bucks. The combined salaries for Jennifer Lopez (in 2012), Minaj and Carey equaled to $45 million.
Do you think a clean slate at the judges table will revive American Idol? Who would you miss the most if none of the current judges return?
