After a season of continually disappointing ratings, and countless rumours and reports, American Idol just Randy Jackson has confirmed that he will not be returning to the show next season. Jackson, the last remaining judge who has been with the show since its first season, has been a staple on Idol for twelve seasons now. His laid back demeanor and signature ‘Yo’ dawg’ are part of the show’s character, and his departure will certainly mean a turning point for the reality singing competition series.
"Yo! Yo! Yo! To put all of the speculation to the rest, after 12 years of judging on American Idol I have decided it is time to leave after this season," Jackson said Thursday. "I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry. It's been a life changing opportunity but I am looking forward to focusing on my company Dream Merchant 21 and other business ventures."
There has been news circulating that Jackson won’t be the last judge to depart from Idol after this season.
Of course, the good news that comes out of this is that Idol may get a much needed ratings boost next week for its finale episode. It can be expected that Jackson will receive a hearty farewell, which will likely draw in more Idol fans to see his final goodbye.
Are you sad to see Jackson go, or is his departure long overdue?
