Angela Bassett, Patti LuPone join 'American Horror Story'

The upcoming third season of 'American Horror Story' is set to debut, appropriately, in October; today, two new high-profile names were added to the cast. The season is called "Coven" and will be themed around witches; will newcomers Angela Bassett and Patti LuPone be among them?

Oscar-nominated Angela Bassett has been starring in television series since the mid-1980s and brings LuPonea recognizable face and proven talent to the 'American Horror Story' cast. Bassett was on top of the world in the early 1990s, starring in films like 'Malcom X,' 'What's Love Got to Do With It' and 'Waiting to Exhale.' Patti LuPone is a Tony Award-winning actress who starred in 'Life Goes On' over 83 episodes at the close of the 1980s. Recently, LuPone has appeared on 'Oz,' '30 Rock' and 'Army Wives.'

The FX horror anthology series 'American Horror Story' focuses on a different narrative each season. The first season, titled "Murder House" was about relationships and infidelity. The second season was set in an insane asylum in the 1960s and was titled "Asylum." The upcoming third season "Coven" has been cast with Bassett, LuPone, Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, Evan Peters and others.

Series creator Ryan Murphy took to Twitter to announce Bassett and LuPone's casting, referring to both actors as "legends." 'American Horror Story' has never had any difficulty attracting name talent to star in the series--will the third season continue to attract a rapt audience?
