Fox planning to ride with Billy the Kid

BTKFox loves a good shootout - as you probably guessed by the fact that it was dusting off the 24 franchise. Now word has come out that the network will be working with Tom Fontana (Homicide: Life on the Street) on a new limited-run drama series that will focus on the infamous Billy the Kid.

The series will look at Billy's origins, showing how he became a celebrity and was one of America's first "outlaw heroes." The legend says that Billy the Kid (born William Henry McCarty) killed 21 men by the time he himself was gunned down at 21. He began killing at 16. But the truth of the matter is that Billy's legend is embellished and enhanced, as he actually spent the last years of his short life trying to clear his name. This series will strive to provide a deeper-look into who Billy the Kid actually was.

Fontana will be writing the project, with Barry Levinson on board to executive produce.

Fox has cited the success of History's Hatfields & McCoys as one of the reasons it is moving forward with this project.

Does this sound like a winner to you? I know the details are a little scarce at this point, but I think there is some real potential in this project.

Two words: FREAKIN' AWESOME!! I do hope they make a good series about him. Hopefully, they'll be a bit accurate. A bit. ^_^
