PBS has announced the United States airdates of the fourth season of Downton Abbey (which airs in the United Kingdom later this year.
January 5, 2014 is the magic date for America. The show will run through February 23.
Expect to see some new faces joining the cast this season, as Tom Cullen plays Lord Gillingham, a close Crawley family friend; Nigel Harman will appear as a visiting valet named Green; and Dame Harriet Walter plays Lady Shackleton, a friend of the Dowager (Maggie Smith).
Shirley MacLaine will also be returning in the role of Martha Levinson, the mother of Cora (Elizabeth McGovern).
PBS also announced a new series called Last Tango in Halifax, a British dramedy that will premier on September 8. The BBC-developed series will see all six of its first season episodes aired. The program did very well in the United Kingdom, becoming one of BBC One's highest-rated series. A second series has been ordered already.
"I fell in love with Last Tango and its stars from the moment I saw it," said Beth Hoppe, PBS Chief Programming Executive and General Manager, General Audience Programming. "And love and family and all the complications that come with it are at the heart of this warm comedy-drama."
