Dancing with the Stars fans: say goodbye to Tuesday night’s results show! ABC has swung the ax down on their lower-rated Tuesday results show for Dancing with the Stars to make room for the highly anticipated Joss Whedon show Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
The finale of Dancing with the Stars, which airs next Tuesday, will be the very last result show of the franchise. Dancing with the Stars is now in its 16th season, and although the results show has never dazzled in the ratings, it has been down by 11 percent in viewers this season. The solution for Dancing with the Stars is to turn it into a two-hour long block on Monday nights, says ABC Entertainment Group President Paul Lee. “It doesn’t get more aggressive than that. We want to focus (DWTS) in by taking the results show and building it into the two-hour block on Mondays to really drive viewership. We had very, very strong development this year so this allowed us to put S.H.I.E.L.D. on Tuesdays, which we think is a perfect place for that show.”
Lee, however, did not specify whether or not the two-hour long show will work as a competition and results show. Lee refused to address whether the show would feature fewer contestants and would no talk about whether or not viewers could expect a co-host change. “I don’t want to jump the gun,” Lee said about possible changes to the show. “There are a number of great ideas. The critical thing is to nail down the casting. We aged Bachelor down this year with spectacular casting, so as we focus on Monday we will focusing down Dancing with the Stars.”
