Call it "It's Never Sunny in Winterfell."
Whatever the title, it's certainly the crossover no one saw coming -- "Sunny" star Rob McElhenney confirmed that the showrunners of HBO's fantasy epic "Game of Thrones" David Benioff and Dan Weiss have penned an episode of the FX comedy for its upcoming season.
The "Sunny" star and creator is a noted fan of the HBO series, having hosted a 2013 panel with the cast and writers of the series. McElhenny tweeted a picture from the set of the comedy series ninth series which is in production now, showing himself, Benioff and Weiss in Paddy's Pub. "If ur wondering whether or not Benioff and Weiss wrote an episode of Sunny this year the answer is, of course, yes," the actor said. FX also confirmed the deal, rejecting the possibility that McElhenny was perhaps having a bit of fun with his Twitter followers.
Few details are available about what the writers' episode will center on, although Entertainment Weekly noted that the FX series is passing its 100th episode milestone while also serving as a key program in FX's new comedy focused channel FXX. All that's certain is that the two shows are practically polar opposites, with the grim seriousness and political struggles common in King's Landing likely being out of place in the self-involved absurdity at Paddy's.
Hopefully the episode can rope in some guest stars from Westeros -- Charlie Day riffing with Peter Dinklage would be a sight to see. Perhaps Dennis can give Joffrey a good slapping as well.
