Apple TV is about to be overrun by vampires and vigilante superheroes! That's because The CW Network has announced the launch of its new TV Now app on Apple TV, bringing free programming to streaming device's subscribers.
The app was recently launched to Xbox Live and Windows 8 customers. While Apple TV currently has deals in place with Netflix and Hulu Plus, the CW deal will be its first with a major broadcast network.
"This year we're reaching more viewers on more platforms," said CW President Mark Pedowitz of the deal. "We are reaching our audience everywhere they are, and we want you to be with us everywhere we go."
Similar to services such as Hulu Plus and HBO Go, the ad supported application will make the network's programs, ranging from the action series "Arrow" to "The Vampire Diaries" and "Supernatural," available to viewers the day after new episodes are initially broadcast. Additionally, the app will offer featurettes and other behind the scenes specials that will supplement the new episodes. Unlike those aforementioned services, the TV Now app is reportedly free of charge and requires no proof of cable television subscription.
No official date has been announced for the network's launch on Apple TV.
