BBC confirms ‘Doctor Who’ season 8

Matt Smith as Doctor Who

BBC officially confirmed, via their blog, that Doctor Who has been commissioned for an eighth season! The show’ lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat took to the blog to break the news, saying, “We’re delighted to confirm a new series of Doctor Who has been commissioned,” and added that they were “already plotting a brand new run of adventures for the Doctor.”

In addition to this good news, Matt Smith has also been confirmed to return for the upcoming season as The Doctor. Fans can breathe easy that they won’t have to go through a heart wrenching goodbye for at least one more season, contrary to some worrisome statements that Smith has made in the past.  “I couldn’t do this for seven years. I’d be run into the ground. I don’t think you can sustain it…” Smith told Empire Magazine in the past.

Despite his previous misgivings, Smith is definitely on board for with the series for now. “We come back and shoot the Christmas special over the summer, then we go on to the next series, which will either start filming at the end of this year or at the start of 2014,” Matt recently said.

Until then, fans still have the 50th anniversary special to look forward to, slated to air on November 23rd. Are you happy to hear that The Doctor will be returning to television for another season?

Matt Smith needs to go, now! Make him go away and the show will be good again. H8 that bugger. He perfectly embodies everything that is wrong with Dr. Who ever since he took over from David Tennant (want him back, plz ? I can haz Davi ? Yessss ?)

I'm a die-hard fan of the Doctor Who series and have been for decades.  So, I'm happy they're keeping the show alive since it's one of the more entertaining shows out there. How many shows do you find these days where the good guys always win in the end (although I can never quite figure out how)?

This last season was a bit choppy and, until the final show, hasn't been quite as much fun to watch as prior seasons. I think the hype about this season may have led me to have some unrealistic expectations.  Leaving the season finale on a teaser hints at something more epic next year than  this season.  Hopefully the hype will become the reality next year.

So glad to hear that Matt Smith will be back!! I was worried at the end of the last episode that I would, once again, have to get used to a new Doctor. Matt brings a funny, quirky, joy to the character and he's a delight to watch.
