FX's The Strain has a lot of buzz, given that Guillermo del Toro is involved in the project, which is based on his book trilogy that he co-wrote with Chuck Hogan.
That buzz increased today after it was announced that Alias vet Mia Maestro has signed on to star opposite Corey Stoll as his character's love interest.
Stoll (who recently appeared in House of Cards) will play Ephraim "Eph" Goodweather, a CDC doctor who investigated a vampire virus that sweeps through New York City. Goodweather leads the CDC's Canary Team in the Big Apple and struggles to fight against the virus and save humanity.
Maestro will play Dr. Nora Martinez, a biochemist who is also Eph's right hand (wo)man. They are very close, even finishing each other's sentences. Their love affair threatens the mission's integrity as the show moves along.
Martinez changes during the novels, from a caring woman into a warrior. You have to do what you have to do to get by.
Maestro played Nadia on Alias from 2004 to 2006. She has also appeared in Person of Interest, White Collar and the feature film Frida.
Lost alum Kevin Durand is also involved in the Strain, as he plays Vasily Fet, rat exterminator who joins the war against the vampires.
