Just as everyone suspected, former Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland and Latin singer Paulina Rubio will join Simon Cowell and Demi Lovato at the judges’ panel next season on The X Factor. This move will make X Factor the first major U.S. broadcast singing competition to boast a female majority on its judging panel. I am sure that Simon will have no problem with the new arrangement.
“It’s taken more than a decade but I’m delighted to finally be on a panel with three girls (I think!),” said Cowell in a statement. “Paulina and Kelly both have great taste and massive experience in the music industry and together with Demi, this is going to be a fun panel. It just feels like the time to do something different.”
Rowland and Rubio are equally as excited to be joining the U.S. version of X Factor. “I am very excited to be reuniting with Simon Cowell and The X Factor family. It feels great to be able to take this journey here at home in the states!” said Rowland. “I love The X Factor!” Rubio echoed. “I can’t wait to find the next big music star here in America. I’m so thrilled to be part of the show as a judge. Simon, be careful what you wish for, let’s see if you are ready to handle me, empieza la fiesta, amigo!”
Each addition to the panel brings with them their own previous experience, both as musicians and as judges. Rowland was a judge on the UK version of X Factor and Rubio was a judge on the Mexican version of The Voice. The diversity in age between each of the judges will hopefully add a new dimension to the show. Lovato (20), Rowland (32), Rubio (41) and Cowell (53) are each roughly a decade or more apart from the other judges on the panel.
