The possible list of Oscar hosts for next year has been narrowed by one.
That's because this year's host, "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane, has opted out of the gig for next year. The actor/comedian confirmed the news on his Twitter feed, playing off the decidedly mixed reviews he received for his 2013 hosting effort.
"Traumatized critics exhale: I'm unable to do the Oscars again. Tried to make it work schedule-wise, but I need sleep. However, I highly recommend the job, as [producers Craig] Zadan and [Neil] Meron are two of the most talented producers in the business," he said.
He continued, jokingly suggesting a host that would potentially bomb worse than he did, "My suggestion for host is Joaquin Phoenix."
Zadan and Meron were confirmed to return as producers on the Academy Awards telecast again for 2014, triggering rumors that the two were eager to see MacFarlane take the stage a second time.
MacFarlane drew fairly divisive reviews for his 2013 hosting effort, some critics dubbing his monologues and musical numbers the "meanest" in history. His slate is pretty full for the coming year, with duties on his "Family Guy" and "American Dad!" animated efforts as well as a new live-action sitcom "Dads" at Fox.
Who would you like to see host the Oscars next year?
