Let it never be said that the Discovery Channel has a problem with getting its hands dirty.
The network has announced a new series coming to air called Blood and Oil, which will focus on an Ohio family that owns an oil company and struggles to stay competitive amid Ohio's oil boom.
The Cutters' battle against big oil is described by Discovery as being reminiscent of "David vs. Goliath." Charles "Chuck" Cutter and his wife Beth founded the company, which now includes their sons CJ, Josh and Shawn, daughter Kristin and her husband Ray Anthony. Chuck has passed away, further complicating the company's fortune.
Big oil corporations have inched into the state, securing drilling rights all over, which just makes things more difficult for the Cutters. They have limited for options with expanding their territory.
One of the topics the show will cover is when CJ makes the risky decision to wildcat drill on their own property.
The show is scheduled to premiere Tuesday, June 18 at 10 p.m. It was formerly developed under the working title Cutter Oil when it was first announced last month. It is being produced for Discovery by PSG Motion Pictures and executive produced by Brian Jones and David Pritikin.
Discovey also has another oil-themed program in the works, as Backyard Oil is scheduled to debut later this year.
