FX's new crime thriller 'The Bridge' gets premiere date

After The Americans' success with both critics and ratings earlier this year, FX is prepping to bring us another thriller series this summer. The cable network's new series The Bridge has been given a premiere date: Wednesday, July 10 at 10 p.m.

The Bridge is a thriller that will focus on border disputes between the U.S. and Mexico. Diane Kruger (Inglorious Basterds, National Treasure) will play Sonya Cross, an El Paso detective who must work with Mexican detective Marco Ruiz (Demian Bichir, 'Weeds') to catch a serial killer who is somehow claiming victims on both sides of the bridge connecting El Paso and Juarez.

You can bet that the results are going to be gritty -- and since it's FX, probably high-quality. (In fact, my only qualms from the series come from the fact that it's joining The Following, Hannibal, and The Killing's ranks in our suddenly serial-killer-saturated television landscape).

The series, like The Killing, is adapted from a Scandanavian show: this time, the source material is Bron, a series co-produced by Denmark and Sweden and set on the border between the two countries.

The Bridge's first season will run for thirteen episodes. Will you be tuning in?

The Bridge premieres Wednesday, July 10 at 10/9c on FX.

Although American shows can be really really good, "goodness" rarely applies on adaptations of foreign shows. Even notable examples like Homeland, In Treatment and The Killing, despite being all very good productions... It suggests that when a show is adapted for the American viewers, it often looses some of the best details of the originals. Does the American audience need these shows to be dumb? I don't think so. Writers, producers and all the incredible amounts of "others" should start to understand that the general public it's usually ahead of them, not behind. Another scandinavian that it's likely to be picked up? Real Humans (Swedish title: Äkta människor)
