The man who directed the debut episode of the new hit series 'Hannibal' is ready to do it again, this time for the Syfy network. Slade will be directing the first episode of the upcoming drama 'Helix,' set to begin filming in Montreal, Quebec.
Slade's highest-profile directorial work to date was helming 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse;' he made a name for himself with the critically-acclaimed sleeper hit feature 'Hard Candy' in 2005, which starred Canadian actress Ellen Paige. Slade also directed an episode of the smash hit AMC drama 'Breaking Bad' and two episodes of 'Hannibal' after the first one. Originally from the UK, Slade has been directing projects in the USA for over a decade.
'Helix' is a new Syfy project from 'Battlestar Galactica' producer Ronald D. Moore. 'Helix' is a dark thriller about a team of scientists investigating a possible disease outbreak. Moore, showrunner Steven Maeda and Lynda Obst executive produce and Porsandeh co-exec produces the series, with Slade set to executive produce the premiere episode.
Moore produced both 'Battlestar Galactica' as well as the tie in series 'Caprica,' making him royalty in the geek sector. Other projects of Moore's include 'Roswell,' 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' and 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.' The combination of Moore and a feature film director like Slade makes 'Helix' a highly anticipated project, to say the least. Time will tell if Slade sticks around to direct further episodes beyond the pilot, as he did with 'Hannibal.'
