Check out the first photo from 'The Walking Dead' season 4

The Walking Dead's third season might have ended with Rick's group of survivors returning to the prison, but don't worry -- they'll be venturing back out into the Georgia wilderness soon enough. At least, that's what the first photo from the show's upcoming fourth season reveals.

The photo shows Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) -- with a pretty full beard, I might add -- standing in the woods, looking concerned toward something in the distance. He's looking the wrong way, though; naturally, there's a zombie behind him.

This is our first look at season 4, but it really doesn't give us much to go on. Season 3 was left pretty open-ended, with the threat of the Governor still at large and a new group of survivors for Rick's group to take care of (but let's be realistic here, probably just to be eaten by zombies). Season 4 could go in any number of directions, and it'll be interesting to see just which one it chooses.

Here's what else we know about season 4: several recurring cast members from season 3 have been promoted to the show's main cast, Larry Gilliard, Jr. (The Wire) has been given a starring role as army medic Roy Stark, and the zombies are promised to be a bigger threat in the upcoming year.

The Walking Dead will return for the first half of its sixteen-episode fourth season in October. Will you be tuning in?
