After a tense season finale that left SVU fans holding their breath in suspense, actress Mariska Hartgitay has confirmed that she will be returning to Law & Order: SVU for season 15. Everyone breathe out a collective sigh of relief: Ahhhhh! All better?
Hargitay took to her Twitter account to break the news on Saturday, tweeting: "Happy weekend. It's official. Season 15—I'LL BE BACK! xx m". Season 14 ended with the Golden Globe winning actress’ character, Olivia Bensen, being held at gunpoint in her home by a serial rapist. Season 15 of the show was renewed in late April, in the middle of Hargitay’s contract negotiations, and it was uncertain whether or not she would return to the show.
"Her character is due to evolve," says SVU executive producer Warren Leight. "It's time for her to imagine what it would be like to live her own life. [After] 14 years as an SVU detective, some change is going to start to come."
Season 14 of SVU was very fiscally rewarding for Hargitay. I think it would be hard for her to say no to $500,000 per episode (her salary last season), currently making her televisions highest-paid actress. Ka-ching.
Are you happy to hear that Hargitay, and her character, will be safe and sound again on SVU?
