Has 'Community' creator Dan Harmon been asked to return for season 5?

Could it be, Community fans?! The prodigal father returns? Maybe.

On Sunday night, Community creator Dan Harmon let slip on his Harmontown podcast a juicy little tidbit of information pertaining to the fifth season of the show. According to the website, which had a staff member in attendance at the taping, Harmon said that he has been invited back to the comedy. Immediately following this slip, Harmon hastily said that the news was just for those in attendance and asked for it to be edited out of the podcast, but then said “Ah, F—k it! I don’t care who knows!”

So what do we make of this? If the staff member present is telling the truth, Harmon still did not specify whether he will be returning to the series as showrunner or if he will be a consulting producer. In May of 2012, when Harmon was fired, he was offered the position of consulting producer – which he obviously turned down.

“Their reasons for replacing me are clearly none of my business, and I kind of don’t want to hear what their complaints are because I’m sure it would hurt my feelings even more now that I’d be listening for free,” said Harmon back in 2012. Have Harmon and the Community bosses mended their broken relationship?

Harmon reportedly joked during the podcast that he would only make his return to Community for season 5 if they brought back Chevy Chase. Although the statement was (reportedly) followed by raucous laughter, I don’t think the rest of the cast and staff would be laughing quite as much if the joke turned into reality.

Do you think that Community should bring back Harmon?
