'Flintstones,' WWE tag team on new animated feature

World Wrestling Entertainment are about to bodyslam Bedrock!

The Rock

WWE Studios and Warner Bros announced a team up that will send some of the colorful characters from the squared circle back to the Stone Age in a new animated feature starring "The Flintstones."

Fans of the classic animated series and its characters can expect to see best friends Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble joined by new characters from right out of the WWE Universe. Vince McMahon (as Vince McMagma), John Cena (as John Cenastone) and CM Punk (as CM Punkrock) have been confirmed to lend their voice talents. Curiously enough, The Rock is likely not to appear. I mean, his name is The ROCK.

"WWE is family-friendly entertainment, so partnering with Warner Bros on a Flintstones/WWE project was a natural extension of our Scooby Doo deal," President of WWE Studios Michael Luisi, referring to a "Scooby Doo" animated film that will also feature WWE characters. That film is scheduled for release in time for next year's Wrestlemania, with Scooby and the gang joined by the Superstars and Divas of the WWE to solve a mystery at the annual wrestling extravaganza.

Luisi continued, "This new, animated feature allows us to showcase our brand with young fans and loyal Flintstones enthusiasts alike."

The animated effort is currently in production and scheduled for a 2015 release.
