Jennifer Love Hewitt Pushes the Envelope With Edgy New Lifetime Series

It seems Jennifer Love Hewitt has come into her own is ready to share it with the world. The shy young teen we watched in the 90’s on Party of Five is taking on a much more adult role in Lifetime’s new series, “The Client List.”

Set to premiere Sunday night at 10/9c, “The Client List” follows a Texas single mother as she struggles to find financial security in any way she can after being left by her husband. In somewhat of a “Weeds” meets “Pretty Woman” twist, she begins working as a massage therapist at a day spa. She soon finds out the clients at this spa are accustomed to getting a bit of extra special treatment during their services… and not just an extra five minutes on their foot rubs. The Client List premieres tonight on Lifetime at 10/9c.

Inspired by the 2010 Lifetime movie of the same name, the show stars Hewitt as Riley Parks, the mother of two leading a double life.  Although Hewitt played the same role in the movie version of the story, she is still learning her way around portraying an overtly sexy role. Prior to her turn as playing the single mom turned brothel masseuse, Hewitt had been typically cast as the girl next door.  According to Hewitt, being 33 and entering her “24th year in the business” makes it a perfect time to step out of the box.

This departure from a somewhat type cast for Hewitt coincides with the Lifetime network’s desire to push the envelope themselves. The network, mostly known for their ‘based on a true story’ dramatic movies, is certainly taking a chance with the seemingly steamy premise.  Although the subject matter is sexual in nature, we have to remember, however, that we are watching regular cable TV and not Showtime or HBO. Most of the risque’ content will be implied and handled in a lighter and funnier manner, with dialogue often taking a tongue in cheek approach to addressing the “spa services” the clients are receiving.

Whether or not the network will be able to pull off this envelope pushing new series remains to be seen. It just might be the middle ground that some viewers are looking for in a television show... A little bit naughty and certainly fun, but not overtly raunchy.  Now that I think about it, that pretty much sums up some of my favorite friends to hang out with. Sign me up as a curious watcher this Sunday night.

I say the more clevage the better. I don't mean to sound like a pig, but as the Producers say, "If you got it, flaunt it". Plus this will drag in a lot of men to the Lifetime network.
