Later this week on Wednesday, Oxygen will air the second season finale of 'Best Ink,' their tattoo artist reality competition program. Today, prior to that finale, Oxygen has not only announced the renewal of 'Best Ink' for a third season, but they'll be launching two more tattoo-related unscripted series, as well: 'Tattoos After Dark' & 'Break Up Tattoos.'
Rod Aissa, the Senior Vice President of Original Programming and Development at Oxygen, released the following while announcing the renewal: "'Best Ink' has been a proven hit and our viewers have connected with the tattoo artists’ and their skins’ (clients) emotional stories. Season 3 will deliver bigger challenges, higher emotional stakes and contestants that will stop at nothing to prove they have the 'Best Ink.'"
'Best Ink' debuted in March 2012 and the second season began at the beginning of April, this year. The third season will go into development shortly, aiming for a Winter 2013 premiere date. Pete Wentz, the bass player for the band Fall Out Boy, will continue to serve as the host of 'Best Ink.' Tattoo artist Joe Capobianco, tattoo removal shop owner Sabina Kelley and portrait tattoo specialist Hannah Aitchison return as judges for the search for the best tattoo artists nationwide.
'Best Ink' follows a group of ten tattoo artists from the USA, competing for a $100,000 cash prize and fame in the form of a cover story on a respected tattoo magazine.
'Tattoos After Dark' is aimed as a reality series focusing on what goes on after hours in prominent tattoo parlours. SallyAnn Salsano, the mind behind 'Jersey Shore,' will be executive producing on 'Tattoos After Dark,' so they'll have someone who knows how to create television out of next to nothing.
'Break Up Tattoos' brings together former lovers to discuss their relationship, their shared/matching tattoos, their subsequent break-up, and to have the tattoos covered up with new ink.
