The upcoming Lifetime pilot 'Devious Maids,' based on the hit Televisa telenovela 'Ellas Son La Alegria Del Hogar,' will be released digitally in both English and Spanish, in an effort to appeal and reach out to Lifetime's Latino audience.
Executive produced by Marc Cherry ('Desperate Housewives') and Eva Longoria, who also stars in the pilot, 'Devious Maids' is described as a soapy, mystery dramedy. The project stars Ana Ortiz ('Ugly Betty,' 'Hung'), Dania Ramirez ('Entourage,' 'Premium Rush'), Roselyn Sanchez ('Without a Trace'), Edy Ganem ('Livin' Loud') and Judy Reyes ('Scrubs,' 'Gun Hill Road') as five maids with ambition and dreams who work for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills where murder and mayhem collide in the mansions of some of the wealthiest and most powerful families.
The network is making the pilot episode available early on digital platforms beginning Sunday in both English and Spanish. The sneak peak comes ahead of the series’ on-air debut June 23. Following the premiere, Lifetime will make each episode available in both languages the day after its Sunday 10 PM airing. The platforms include myLifetime.com and the Lifetime video watch app, as well as A+E Networks’ distribution partners’ VOD services, sites and apps.
'Devious Maids' marks Longoria's first foray into producing a serial drama; she has previously produced various awards shows and shorts, getting her feet wet for a larger feat such as this. She is in good company alongside Marc Cherry, a man who has been producing television series since 'The Golden Girls' in 1990.
'Devious Maids' debuts on Lifetime on June 23.
