'Continuum' third season commissioned by Showcase

Just over a month after getting a second season pick-up by Syfy in the US, the cast and crew of Canadian series "Continuum" are receiving more good news.

Rachel Nichols in 'Continuum'

Canada's Showcase network has reportedly greenlit a third season of original episodes of the popular time traveling science fiction series.

"Continuum" stars Rachel Nichols ("G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra") as Kiera Cameron, a law enforcement officer from 2077 who travels to the present day to pursue a gang of time jumping rebels 'Liber8,' who are intent on reshaping the dystopian future. While pursuing the rebels, Cameron takes a position with the Vancouver Police Department, assisting with the investigation of current cases that could help in her efforts to thwart the perceived terrorist threat.

"Kiera goes through a very interesting moral crisis... because in 2077 she knows who she is and she knows what she's fighting, she knows what's bad and good," Nichols said of the series. "She comes back to 2012 and her world is completely turned upside down and everything she believes she stood for is in question."

The series ranks among the most popular in Canada today, bringing in 1.7 million viewers for its May 2012 series premiere, while also drawing solid ratings for Syfy with 1.35 million on average for the first season. For US fans of the series, the second thrilling season premieres this Friday on Syfy.

Great news for Continuum Season 3. I watched every episode so far and sure is very interesting this season 2, it gets confusing sometimes as more players are intruduced and keeps you wondering just how many time travelers got back to 2012. I`m guessing the Esher guy is also from the future. We`l see as the show goes on but sure is very interesting sci-fi so far.

Confirmed.  On Showcase's website (www dot showcase dot ca), in an article titled "Coming to Showcase in 2013/14" (www dot showcase dot ca/blogs/1804/coming-to-showcase-in-201314), they say:

"Also look forward to brand-new seasons of returning series including:
Continuum Season 3
Defiance Season 2
Copper Season 2
Covert Affairs Season 4
Beauty and the Beast Season 2
Lost Girl Season 4
Haven Season 4
Rizzoli & Isles Season 4
Game of Thrones Season 2"

Note that I think they're being a little optimistic about airing R&I season 4; they only finished airing season 2 on April 14th and haven't started airing season 3 yet, so my guess is that we'll see season 3 in the 2013/14 "year", not season 4.  Game Of Thrones is essentially in the same situation as R&I; Showcase doesn't have the rights to air the current season, so they're a year behind in GOT as well.

Additionally, if TVRage hadn't found it out elsewhere yet, you can see from the list that as well as Continuum's renewal, Showcase has also renewed Lost Girl and Haven for another year each.  And, just to hit all the shows on the list, Showcase is up-to-date on Defiance, Covert Affairs, Beauty And The Beast and Copper, so the season for each listed above are the ones that will actually air on Showcase in the 2013/14 "year".

Good news, we need to keep the quality sci-fi we've still got alive.
