Paul McCartney to appear on special episode of 'The Colbert Report'

For the second time in program history, The Colbert Report will be expanding to one-hour in length to accommodate a very special guest.

Music legend Paul McCartney will be appearing on the show next Wednesday, June 12. The episode will air from 11:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., and will feature an extensive interview with the Beatles icon, as well as a special music performance to promote his on-going "Out There" tour.

This will be McCartney's first musical appearance on The Colbert Report; however, he did appear on a January 2009 episode for a segment called "Better Know a Beatle." I did not catch that one - did Colbert refer to him as the Fightin' McCartneys at all? Or is that only reserved for the districts?

“I think this McCartney kid’s got something special and I’m gonna put him on the map!” said Colbert about the news, in his traditional style.

For those of you wondering, the first time The Colbert Report supersized was in September 2011 for an appearance by Radiohead. It was similar in style and content to how McCartney's will likely be, with them performing after an interview.

Two days after his episode, McCartney is scheduled to do a performance at Bonnaroo.
