HBO is not renewing the option on a long-running comedy.
The pay cable network will conclude “Eastbound & Down” at the end of its fourth season, HBO announced Thursday. Filming begins in North Carolina tomorrow.
The series launched the career of Danny McBride, who stars as Kenny Powers, a former major league baseball player now teaching phys ed at his former middle school. Last season the pitcher made it back to the majors to recapture past glory, but then he faked his death to run back to April, the mother of his child.
McBride (who created the series with Jody Hill) has also appeared in “Pineapple Express,” “Hot Rod” and “Your Highness.” He can next be seen on the big screen in June 12th's "This Is The End", a comedic take on the apocalypse.
The show also starred Steve Little, Elizabeth De Razzo and Katy Mixon. Hill, McBride, Will Ferrell, Chris Henchy and Adam McKay executive produce “Eastbound & Down.”
The eight-episode final season (which picks up a few years later with Kenny in domestic bliss in North Carolina) debuts Sept. 29 at 10 p.m.
