Paige Davis, the television personality from the hit unscripted series 'Trading Spaces,' 'Home & Family,' and 'Home Made Simple,' is making the leap to scripted comedy. Davis has been cast in a co-starring role opposite funnyman David Koechner in the A&E pilot 'Whitey.'
Not to be confused with the sitcom 'Whitney,' 'Whitey' is a half-hour scripted comedy which centers on Guy “Whitey” White (Koechner), a bright, conservative and frustrated guy in his 40s who is struggling to understand the changing values of a country in a world that has forever gone with the wind. Davis will play Whitey’s wife. From the description it's possible that the series could hit a 'Married... with Children' vibe, however that's purely speculative on my part.
This is a big move for Davis, who has appeared as a television personality since 2003 but hasn't made the foray into acting until now. She's in good hands, starring opposite Koechner, whose comedic timing has been honed in such feature films as 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy' and 'Get Smart.'
Also joining the cast of 'Whitey' is Greg Tuculescu, who hit the scene with a role in the hit comedy feature 'Bridesmaids.' On 'Whitey' Tuculescu will play Whitey's friend, a paranoid war vet who maintains all sorts of wild political conspiracy theories. Should 'Whitey' get picked up to series it would mark the largest television role of Tuculescu's career to date, similarly to Davis.
The pilot is being produced under the A&E umbrella, however should the show be picked up to series, there are a few choices regarding which channel would become its home. There is talk that 'Whitey' could appear as a half-hour comedy on History.
What do you think of the cast and concept for 'Whitey?'
