Tonight is the season three finale of HBO's 'Game of Thrones,' with the episode titled "Mhysa," which means mother in the show's fictional Ghiscari Empire. Of all the mothers on the program, none is perhaps as diabolic as Cersei Lannister, the mother of evil King Joffrey.
Cersei is played by Lena Headey, who is having a big weekend in addition to tonight's finale. Her film "The Purge" had a stunning showing at the box office, gathering $36.4 million dollars (Universal expected the film to land in the low $20 million range) and topping the charts.
Headey recently talked about the film as well as a recent topic of controversy on 'Game of Thrones' - that of nudity. While some other actresses may not want to be nude on camera for the show, Headey seems to have no issue with the subject.
"I've said from day one that I've got no problem with nudity," Headey said. "I've done it throughout my career. But for this character, it's been better for her regality and her feistiness to not bare her flesh until she has to. When it's out of her control. And if that ever happens, it won't be Cersei being seductive or sexy. She'll be stripped."
"That kind of a scene will have more power if it's not an everyday occurrence. I can't wait for that," she added.
As for her film, Headey is not sure having a "purge" would really work.
"It's a f****** horrendous idea. But the concept is a many-levels concept. And as a horror-action idea, it's kind of a great idea that's based somewhat in reality. Does our culture have a need for violence? I don't know," she said. "I guess it's a personal thing. Some people f****** hate horror films, right? But I love them. I find Chainsaw to be a very relaxing film. For me, horror movies are a real escape. I don't feel like I'm getting anything out, but my brain shuts down, and I can fall into this dark, you know, fantasy for a minute. I don't get anything out of it. I just go, 'Oh! That was nice.'"
One thing I think we all can agree on - 'Game of Thrones' would be a lot less interesting if there was a Westeros purge.
