Several castings for FX pilots were recently announced.
Lauren Lee Smith (“CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”) will have a regular role on “The Strain,” which comes from Guillermo del Toro and Carlton Cuse (“Lost”). It is an adaptation of a vampire novel trilogy by del Toro.
“The Strain” has a pilot order, but there are designs for a 13-episode series pickup. “The Strain” tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (played by Corey Stoll, “House of Cards”), head of the Centers for Disease Control canary team in New York City who is investigating an outbreak reminiscent of a strain of vampirism.
Smith is represented by Gersh, Industry Entertainment and Play Management.
Brett Gelman (“Go On”) and Jenny Slate (“Saturday Night Live”) are onboard for the FX Andrew Gurland comedy pilot. The untitled pilot is about how far two best friends will go to salvage their marriage.
Gelman will play Russ Bowman’s (played by Nat Faxon) close friend AJ, who is intense and recently was divorced. Slate plays Jess, Russ’ best friend who was a party girl and now is married to a much older man. Judy Greer plays Bowman’s wife, who gives him permission to get his needs met outside their bedroom.
Gelman is represented by CAA, Mosaic and Isaac Donham.
The pilot is exec produced by Gurland, Paul Young and Peter Principato. Salamo Levin developed the project alongside Gurland, and will be a producer. Gurland wrote the script and will also serve as director.
