HBO reveals first trailer for 'True Detective'

One of the most anticipated upcoming series in all of television has to be HBO's 'True Detective'.

The series, a detective drama (as you likely guessed), premieres in 2014. It focuses on two officers of the law who become interconnected as they attempt to track down a serial killer in New Orleans and throughout Louisiana.

While this may sound like just another run-of-the-mill detective series, HBO has landed some serious star power to make sure this one stands out above the rest.

Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson will play the detectives in what will be McConaughey's first starring role on the small screen. For Harrelson, it is a return to the platform that first made him a household name, as he appeared as Woody Boyd on 'Cheers'.

HBO has released the first trailer for the series and it seems like a home run waiting to happen for the network. Here is the trailer.

I don't know about you, but that brief 30-second look creeps me out. For my money, no one does atmosphere better than HBO. Just the imagery and the tone is enough to hook me, without either Hollywood superstar saying a word. Bravo, HBO.

In the series, McConaughey plays Rush Cohle and Harrelson plays Martin Hart. The show is created by Nic Pizzolatto, who previously wrote for HBO on its critically-beloved series 'The Wire.'
