FX has grabbed another 10-90 sitcom, this one featuring two heavy-hitters.
Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence will star in a Lionsgate TV-produced buddy comedy series, in association with Grammnet NH Prods. and You Go Boy Prods. Bob Boyett, Robert Horn, Grammer, Lawrence, Brian Sher, Stella Bulochnikov, Michael Green and Sam Maydew will exec produce.
Grammer and Lawrence will play Chicago lawyers from different worlds who meet in court on their worst day ever, and form a partnership as they try to balance the ethical and unscrupulous in their work and home lives.
The two met in November right before Thanksgiving with Lionsgate and Debmar-Mercury representatives. The two actors apparently showed great chemistry.
The show would likely use a model established by “Anger Management” with Charlie Sheen: the company sells a sitcom to the cable network with a 10-episode run, and then if ratings are reached, a multi-season order as large as 90 episodes is triggered. That would quickly get the show into syndication. A family sitcom starring George Lopez, using that same model, is also being developed by Debmar-Mercury.
Grammer played Frasier Crane on two shows over 20 years. Martin had his self-titled sitcom on Fox for five years.
Grammer and Lawrence are both represented by UTA.
