'Game of Thrones' conquers America: 146 baby girls are named Khaleesi

'Game of Thrones' is being currently speculated to end after its seventh or eighth season, depending on how things pan out. But for some Americans, it's going to be much, much longer before they can escape from the shadow of Westeros.

Several American girls are stuck with 'Game of Thrones' for life.

According to BabyNameWizard, 146 baby girls were named Khaleesi last year. Yeah, you got that right. Not Daenerys, but Khaleesi.

For those of you who don't watch the series, Khaleesi is the name that the nomadic, barbaric Dothrakis gave to their lord's wife. In the case of Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), it's the title given to the only female head of a Dothraki clan -- and, along with "mhysa" (meaning "mother"), it's one of the many names that the slave-freeing conquerer has aquired.

As brilliant of a series as 'Game of Thrones' is, I can't imagine the name Khaleesi aging as well as other possible Game of Thrones names (Arya, for instance, has increased in popularity since the show's premiere).

What do you think about the name Khaleesi for a child? Is it a great name, or a case of fandom gone too far?

Game of Thrones returns next spring for season 4 on HBO.

@adrianz25: No, next to D'brickashaw, Anfernee and the like, I suppose it's not that weird.

Relax people. It's a cool sounding name. Not every child in America has to be called Debra, or Susan. it kind of sounds like a foreign versionof Kelsey.

Khaleesi? You might as well name your daughter Queen, Chairwoman, or Chief Executive Officer.

I feel very sorry for those poor girls. This is why I believe there should be an iq test before you're allowed to procreate. Sheeple shouldn't be allowed to make decisions that will effect someones entire life. I bet when these girls hit their teens their parents won't be able to figure out why they are hated with the burning passion of a thousand suns by their daughters. Whats next naming your sons 'little finger'? Even naming your daughter Daenerys is a little odd, and would probably cause resentment, but not to the extent that khaleesi will cause. Someone should start a charity to help those poor girls legally change their names when they reach the correct age.

I think it's not that bad guys. If you're a fan of the show (and I think as the best rated show of all times it's going to be remembered) you will like somebody with that name; and if you don't know the show then on it's own it's just a cool sounding exotic name like Dakarai or Simbra (of African origin). Consider yourselves lucky, there are countries where you have 360 names and thats it, no choice.
