'Game of Thrones' is being currently speculated to end after its seventh or eighth season, depending on how things pan out. But for some Americans, it's going to be much, much longer before they can escape from the shadow of Westeros.
Several American girls are stuck with 'Game of Thrones' for life.
According to BabyNameWizard, 146 baby girls were named Khaleesi last year. Yeah, you got that right. Not Daenerys, but Khaleesi.
For those of you who don't watch the series, Khaleesi is the name that the nomadic, barbaric Dothrakis gave to their lord's wife. In the case of Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), it's the title given to the only female head of a Dothraki clan -- and, along with "mhysa" (meaning "mother"), it's one of the many names that the slave-freeing conquerer has aquired.
As brilliant of a series as 'Game of Thrones' is, I can't imagine the name Khaleesi aging as well as other possible Game of Thrones names (Arya, for instance, has increased in popularity since the show's premiere).
What do you think about the name Khaleesi for a child? Is it a great name, or a case of fandom gone too far?
Game of Thrones returns next spring for season 4 on HBO.
