'Game of Thrones' boasts one of the largest, most sprawling casts on television -- but the practicalities of such a massive cast means that some characters have to be pushed to the sideline in order for others to shine.
For instance, remember Ser Allister Thorne? The Master of Arms at Castle Black, played by Owen Teale, was Jon Snow's major antagonist for the first season. Thorne tried (unsuccessfully) to pit the rest of the recruits against Jon, due to his grudge against Ned Stark's bastard son.
But, following the first season episode "The Pointy End," we haven't seen Thorne at all. Subsequent seasons have followed Snow's journey beyond the Wall. We haven't returned to Castle Black -- where Thorne presumably remains -- since.
That's going to change with season 4, though -- Owen Teale recently confirmed to Wales Online that the character will be returning for the show's fourth season.
Thorne will likely make his reappearance upon Jon Snow and Samwell Tarly's return to Castle Black. With Lord Commander Mormont dead, Thorne is in a bigger position of authority than ever -- and you can bet he'll probably take that out on Snow, who is presumed to be a traitor (after all only, Jon and Quorin Halfhand knew of his undercover mission). Thorne's the kind of bad guy you love to hate, though -- and though he'll be causing plenty of trouble for Jon, it's going to be a hell of a lot of fun to see that happen.
Game of Thrones returns for its fourth season next spring on HBO.
